Resident Journal Club | Development of a Prototype Intraoperative Safety Device for HDR Brachytherapy Channel Verification
May 6, 2026 |12:00 PM ET
Join us for our next Physics Journal Club, where we’ll explore an exciting advancement in HDR brachytherapy safety: Development of a Prototype Intraoperative Safety Device for HDR Brachytherapy Channel Verification. Modern brachytherapy afterloaders can support up to 50 channels, making accurate catheter-to-channel matching essential for safe and effective treatment. Incorrect connections remain a challenging failure mode—one that can compromise target coverage and increase dose to healthy tissue. In this session, we’ll review a prototype template attachment designed to detect erroneous catheter connections before delivery, offering clinicians an added layer of intraoperative assurance
